Here’s your chance to win $50 as the best “Lamb Whisperer” at this year’s Show. 

Does your pet sheep or lamb follow you around or do you think you can get a lamb to follow you ?  Get your lamb to follow you around the ‘course’ - the owner/pet combination judged to be the best wins the cash

No Rules apply as to how you achieve this (excepting anything deemed cruel to the animal) by the Judge and Stewards.

  •  “Loan” sheep will be available from local farmers for those wanting to enter but have no sheep to bring.

CATTLE CLASSES RETURN TO THE SHOW

This year we have Junior Cattle Handling and Junior Cattle Judging as well as some Heifer Classes.

We thank our sponsors - Landmark Wangaratta and Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange – for their support for these new classes.

GET YOUR FRIENDS TOGETHER FOR A TUG OF WAR TEAM

This year we have split the classes to make it safer for youngsters to join in the fun.

Junior (under 12 years / primary school age), Intermediate (12-18 years / high school age) and open (over 18 years) classes.  Great prizemoney on offer again sponsored by Yarrawonga Caravans.

Wine Show Update

Wine show entries are flooding in and this could be one of our biggest entries years for a while.
 
The change from Hard Copy entries to the AWRI ShowRunner System has been well received by wineries, however, some are taking time to get there wines listed in the system.
 
We have therefore extended the closing date for entries to 1st September 2017.
 
This years public tasting is selling out, so, if you haven't got your tickets yet don't wait to long or you might just miss out.
 
Tickets are also available for the fabulous 4 Course Presentation Dinner catered for by Pickled Sisters with Matching Wines from last years winners. Get on board and get your ticket. A great night for all.

DEVELOPMENT OF POLICIES

A number of proposed enhancements to the Society’s business practices are being developed with introduction proposed over the coming two years.

Included in these enhancements are adoption of policies to meet legislative changes and to facilitate the change to on-line entries for the annual wine Show.

Two new policies Privacy Policyand Refund Policy were adopted at the Committee’s meeting on 21 June 2017 and are available under the “Downloads” tab on the website.

CHANGES AT THE SOCIETY

Message from Greg Lumby, President of Rutherglen Agricultural Society Inc.

CHANGE OF SOCIETY’S STAFF

Following the retirement of Mark and Zelma Eltringham, our new Secretary/Treasurer with responsibility for the presentation of the Wine Show, facility management and the Society’s administration, Is Geoff O'Dwyer who commenced on 20 March 2017.

Mrs Diane O'Dwyer remains as Show Secretary, responsible for the planning and staging of the annual Rutherglen Agricultural Show.

 NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS

We welcome our new Committee Members - David Waters (Rutherglen) and Max Heinjus (Springhurst).  The Committee would like to express the sincere appreciation of the Society for the long years of services contributed by retiring Committee Member Ken Grantham.

IMPROVEMENTS TO HENDERSON PAVILION CONTINUE

The functionality and appearance of the meeting room at the Pavilion has been greatly improved by the installation of second-hand kitchen benches and cupboards etc.  Our thanks go to Mrs Evelyn Alger for her very generous donation.

Further improvements are commencing shortly with a grant to update the toilets (seal floors and paint) and other minor works.

PUBLIC TASTING & AWARDS DINNER

 

 THE PUBLIC TASTING will be held on Friday 29 September - 6.30 pm. to 10 p.m.  Tickets MUST BE pre-purchased as places are limited.

THE AWARDS DINNER will be held on Thursday 28 September at the Rutherglen Memorial Hall.  Limited seating is available to members of the Public.  Please contact us if you with to attend.
