Agricultural Show

The Rutherglen Agricultural Show is now in its 129th year and continues to retain the  traditions of a country show with the addition of fun events for individuals and groups.    

An extensive Horse Program is available with Breed Classes, Led and Ridden Horse and Pony events and Fun Ring for novice ponies and riders.  

The Lamb Expo continues to be a popular event.  The Lamb Program carries a trophies and excellent prizes with the Andrew Campbell Memorial class for Best Retail Trade Class, Gordon Fisher Memorial Trophy for Best Supermarket Class and Norm Killeen Memorial Trophy for Champion Hoof Award.  Classes within the Lamb Program carry cash and prizes from our additional Sponsors - McNamaras AGnVET and their suppliers and Paull & Scollard of Corowa. 

We have a new novelty event in the sheep and lamb area for under 15 yo competitors.  Just like the lamb in Mary Had a Little Lamb we are looking for young Lamb Whisperers.  Does your lamb or sheep follow you wherever you go ?  If so, bring them to the Show and win the prize sponsored by Rutherglen Veterinary Clinic.

A display of stud sheep can also be found in the Sheep Pavilion and a "Quess the Weight" of the lamb competition with great prizemoney available.

Visit the Pavilion and see demonstrations of old crafts with Hand Spinning demonstrations showing how the fleece from the lambs is turned into hanks of wool for knitting and craft work.

 This year sees the return of a Cattle competition with Junior Cattle Handling & Judging classes and classes for Heifers.  Visit the  Fleece and Crop and Poultry competitions  and check out the new Backyard Poultry classes in the Poultry.

 Special Events include:

Tug of War Competition for senior, Intermediate (high school age) and junior (primary school age) teams 

Dog Jumping Competition for small, medium and large dogs

Nail Driving Competition for ladies and this year for the guys also !!

- hotly contested Men's Cake and Sauce Competitions

Trailer Backing Competition for Women

The Pavilion exhibits includes all those traditional country skills of Cooking, Home Preserves, Craft & Handiwork as well as very popular Photography and Art sections.  For the boys - the Pavilion classes are open to both male and female exhibitors.

The Rutherglen Show has always catered for the young in the community with junior sections in many categories and all of the local schools support the Show by encouraging student involvement. Regular features at the Rutherglen Show include Showgirl and Tiny Tots competitions,  a Petting Zoo, Clown, Pet Parade, Ferret Races, Vintage Machinery, Heritage Vehicles, Motor Bike display and an array of Market Stalls. We also have we have the Victorian Showman's Guild with a well presented sideshow alley and fun rides.

Judging The wines are judged by panels of three judges and one or two associates who independently assess the wines before a combined score is totalled and allocated to each exhibit.
Each judge allocates up to 20 points based on 3 for "colour and clarity", 7 for "bouquet" and 10 for "palate"
The "Chief Judge" maintains the casting vote in the case of any variance between judges.

Awards are made on the following basis:

Gold Award 55.5 to 60.0
Silver Award 51.0 to 55.0
Bronze Award 46.5 to 50.5

The 2017 Rutherglen Wine Show & Australian Fortified Wine Show are now open for entries and all wineries are urged to consider entering wines in our Shows. With a history going back over a century, there is no doubt that Rutherglen Wine Show Medals are still recognized and respected by wine consumers as a mark of a great wine. We have world-class judges assessing wines from all over Australia & every wine receives confidential feedback as part of the judging process. Well known and reputable Wine Shows still provide a great deal for Wine Producers trying to maintain an edge in a very competitive market environment & Rutherglen is one such Wine Show. Our entry costs are extremely reasonable, our service is first class & our integrity is unquestionable. Give us a try.

The Rutherglen Agricultural Show

The Rutherglen Agricultural Show is one of a few surviving small Agricultural Shows still held in Victoria.

We strive to provide a Show for all the family by retaining the traditions of the old agricultural country shows as well as introducing new features in which the community can participate.  Horse events, animal and farm produce competitions and displays of home cooking, preserves, floral displays, art & crafts and photography are all part of our Show each year.

The Show has a Prime Lamb competition with around $1000 in prize money and trophies.

Special events include Men’s Cake & Sauce Competitions, Bush Poetry Competition, Ferret Races, Pet Parade, Dog Jumps,Tug of War, Trailer Backing for Ladies and Nail Driving for both ladies and guys.

We continue to look for new ideas and events we can introduce to keep the Show as an annual event for the community at large.
